BuddyTalk FAQs

Q: What is BuddyTalk?

A: BuddyTalk is an Internet based voice and text software communication application enabling PC-to-PC calling, and PC-to-Phone calling. Employing InnoMedia's advanced Internet Protocol (IP) telephony technology, BuddyTalk delivers the highest sound quality possible in a thin-client Voice-over-IP (VoIP) environment.

Q: Does BuddyTalk offer any FREE calling services?

A: BuddyTalk offers FREE PC-to-PC calling worldwide. Tell your friends and family to download BuddyTalk and you can talk to each for as long as you want, free of charge!

Q: Do my friends need BuddyTalk for me to be able to call them?

A: If your friends also had BuddyTalk and they were online, you could call one another for free. BuddyTalk can also connect you to any phone in the world, even someone who is on a mobile phone. Calls to people who do not have BuddyTalk will be charged a low per-minute rate based on the country called.

Q: If I have a Firewall or Proxy Server, can I still use BuddyTalk?

A: A proxy server and a firewall are devices that filter access to protected networks. If your network uses a proxy server to provide Internet connectivity, then BuddyTalk will not work. If you are using a firewall/NAT router, then you will need to configure your firewall to allow BuddyTalk to communicate through it. If you are using it behind a NAT firewall with multiple PCs behind it, note that only ONE BuddyTalk user may be in a phone call at any given time for PC-to-PC calls. See also Setting up BuddyTalk to work behind a Firewall/NAT Router.

Q: What if I call someone and we can't hear each other or the voices are too soft?

A: To ensure the highest sound quality in your calls, make sure you check the volume control settings on your PC, headset, or microphone and speakers. Click here to learn more.

A: A 28.8Kbps dial-up Internet connection is all that BuddyTalk requires. However, other factors such as latency and packet loss will affect the quality of your calls.
